Each year the Saturday morning before Thanksgiving, The Mat Makers and Friends arrive at Linn Park for the Mat and Blessing Bag Giveaway.

We spend all year crocheting Sleeping Mats, sewing pillows, and gathering essentials and goodies to gift to our Homeless Community.

This year we are so excited to partner with Cool Box Storage which is holding a Blessing Bag Item Drive. Any items donated on their list can be dropped off at either of their local locations. Check out the List and please share it with family and friends. 

What do we actually give?

Our Mission is to fill 2 bags. The first bag holds the “Sleeping Mat” and a personal-sized pillow.

The second bag is full of Blessings. Items that are usually included are:

“Hot Hands” Hand Warmers
Rain Ponchos
Gloves
Small Kleenex
Toe Nail Clipper
Toothbrush & & Toothpaste
Snack Crackers
Cookies
Slim Jim’s
Vienna Sausages
Applesauce/ Fruit Cup
Individual Peanut Packs
Gum
Raisins
Jolly Ranchers
Peppermints

Our BIG GOAL is to hand out 135 Mats and Blessing Bags during that Saturday morning!

As you can imagine, we are always working, always gathering, always looking for helping hands.

We have been blessed by GOD each year to meet our goals, especially during the Pandemic

Our Small Group has grown to several groups in Alabama over the years. All are able to minister to their homeless communities and still help us out in the Birmingham Metro area.

Our Mission is more than a holiday giveaway. We see people in need all year long, and we supply mats as they are needed.
