Each year, on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, we as a group arrive at Linn Park in downtown Birmingham around 8 am. It’s our first stop on our Giveaway Day. Linn Park is the center of our Homeless Community network and the place in town where we can make the most significant impact on that community.
We, a Small Group of crocheters and organizers, spend all year planning and gathering for this particular event. Our yearly goal is to hand out 2 bags to each person who has a need. Bag #1 has 1 mat and 1 pillow. Bag #2 has a variety of essential and comfort items.
We arrive with approximately 135 bags of each type. Every year all of our bags are given out.
It’s a reflection of the times we live in.
